Alan Bentrup serves as Canon for Evangelism & Mission in the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina, helping parishes discern how they can share the good news of Jesus and participate in God's mission.

Previously, Alan served as Associate Rector at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Cypress, Texas. If you want to know why he knows so much about floods and disaster relief, just Google “Hurricane Harvey” and there you have it.

Alan is co-founder and curator of Missional Voices, a hub of conversation about innovative ministries and missional communities in The Episcopal Church. A graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, he was the first student to earn the New Mission Practices concentration at VTS.

Prior to seminary, Alan spent more than a decade as a communication consultant for businesses and individuals across the country. He worked with large corporations, small start-ups, politicians, and business leaders on a wide range of communications matters, including marketing, crisis communications, and public relations. His work has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, the Houston Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, and many more leading publications across the country.
